The Year is 1100, The First Crusade has just finished with the establishment of the Crusader Kingdoms of Jerusalem and Antioch, While the Roman Empire has successfully reconquered large amounts of Anatolia. However, the Catholic Powers are in for the greatest fight known to man yet as the Islamic Empire prepares to retake the lands taking from them. The Germans, Scandinavians and Catholic Slavs are beginning to look towards the Baltics and Finland with the intention of claiming the lands for Christianity and for themselves. The Catholic Kingdoms in Iberia look with rage at the Islamic Empire to their south and prepare for the next phase of the Long and Bloody Reconquista. It is a time of religious fanaticism and bloody conquest in the name of one's Faith, and for one's own glory as these wars will be remembered for all eternity.

Around the world a new era is beginning as The Nomads north of China are becoming restless, and the Islamic Empires look East just as much they look west. Across the Atlantic centralized states are beginning to form in the Andes and in Mesoamerica. The Chinese, Japanese and South East Asians are in a cultural golden era.

How will you lead your country into the future? Will you be remembered or lost in the seas of blood?

  • Kingdom of Croatia: The nobles of Croatia, during a meeting about who they should choose as their king are interrupted by a relatively young man, who says he is a descendant of Gojslav of the Trpimirović dynasty and Domagoj of the Domagojević dynasty. He suggests himself as the new king, and is quickly supported by most of the nobility in order to stabilize the Kingdom quickly. The new king's name is Petar Krešimir V, and he promises to restore the once great Kingdom of Croatia. In order for his rule to be accepted, an envoy is sent to the papal states in order for the new king to gain formal recognition from the Pope (mod response). King Petar Krešimir V also asks the Hungarian king to recognise his claim to the throne.
    • Mod response: the Papacy grants formal recognition to the new king of Croatia.
    • Hungarian Dip: We ask for an alliance.
    • Croatian Dip: Accepted.
  • Kingdom of England: The new king, Henry I is crowned. The military is expanded some. The Charter of Liberties is signed to ease the fears of the nobles. King Henry also begins attempts to consolidate power and sends a diplomatic entourage to Scotland to open relations.
    • Guyenne: Military and infrastructure are expanded.
    • Normandy:  Military and infrastructure are expanded.
  • Este: The disunited Estonian tribes, fearing the rapaciousness of their German and Danish neighbours, come together to form a confederal elective monarchy. The first elected High King of Estonia is Veste, a Dorpatian from eastern Estonia with a ferocious hatred of Novgorod and the Kievan Rus (resulting from a lifetime spent fighting their raids) and a willingness to compromise with the westerners. He orders the adoption of the Latin alphabet, enabling him to form a rudimentary bureaucracy and organize a basic standing army from previously existent irregular tribal militias. He also brings the irregular Estonian vihing raiders under direct control, offerign them troops and money in order to shift their raids south and east aginst the Kievans and Novgorodians. Great quantities of furs and amber are taken. Meanwhile, he requests to bring three of the largest south Finnish tribes into the confederation. (Mod Response Needed).
  • You can't do this so quickly. To do what you're hoping to do will take at least 30 years. Also, the Finns will not unite with you. With Blood and Iron (talk) 20:33, May 15, 2014 (UTC)
  • Kingdom of Hungary: Konyves Kalman becomes the youngest king of the country at 21 years of age. The reason he becomes king is that his parents are to old to rule the nation. We increase the military by adding more men. Our country expand west into the Vlach and Uzes tribes taking them over. Konyves recognizes Petar Kresimar as king of Croatia. We ask Croatia for an alliance. We send 5000 troops to the Holy Land to fight the Muslims and take control of an area in the territory. We also set up a base in the Holy Land for our troops can rest and practice before fighting. The most important industries of our nation are farming and blacksmithing.
  • Seljuq Empire: Goal trickles in to the mighty coffers of the great and powerful Seljuq Empire. Many happenings in the Great Seljuq Empire occur this year. The most important is the taking over of Ahlat by Slave Commander Sökmen. The state of Shah Armen is created as a vassal of the Great Seljuq Empire. In the meantime, refugees flock to Baghdad from Jerusalem. The Seljuq Dynasty expands its influence over Damascus.
    • Shah Armen: Sökmen establishes an economy for Shah Armen.
    • Aleppo: The economy is expanded.
    • Seljuqs of Rum: The temporary alliance with the Danishmens proves to be a fruitful one as the economy increases following the Battle of Melitene.
  • Kingdom of Norway: The Kingdom of Norway boasting a population of 500,000 sees the end of the viking age near, and begins to recruit many of these experienced soldiers and fighters as his own personal guard, giving the most distinguished ones landed titles personally held by the king. Magnus III takes an unexpected turn in policy and realizes that his kingdom not only requires more people, but requires more territory in general domestically. This leads to Magnus taking his own personal troops and staging a few raids into Sweden to aggravate the smaller and less developed kingdom . The Kingdom itself shows a notable population growth as the Farming methods are improved a bit. Magnus himself also leads a series of raids along the Welsh coast to garner more prestige for himself. The Norwegians also begin multiple raiding incursions against the Saami people to the north. The Infrastructure of the kingdom is improved as best as possible.
    • Iceland: With a small population in the high thousands low 10,000's the Icelandic peoples continue to live under the Kingdom of Norway and allow ships to come and go as they please. The Icelandic people increase military, economy, and Infrastructure to protect their interests.
  • The Fatamid Caliphate begins to address the problem of the Nile's irrigation, after a drought kills many crops. Though still a trade-based nation, it is recognized that this state of disrepair cannot continue to be tolerated. Three thousand workers are brought in, digging new canals, building new roads, and generally improving Egypt's infrastructure. This, of course, soon spreads to the other parts of the Caliphate. The population, at several million, begins to grow. Meanwhile, after a heavy argument, it is agreed to lighten the persecution of Muslims within the Caliphate, to allow both Ismailism and Islam to be practiced. We continue our trade with neighboring nations, and request a military pact with the Seljuqs. All vassals expand their economies.
    • Great Seljuq Empire: We accept the military pact.
  • Este: Veste, ruler of the island of Saaremaa, begins the long process of uniting the disparate Estonian tribes. He starts by adopting the Latin alphabet and organizing a basic bureaucracy over his tribe. Meanwhile, raids are directed against Sweden and Novgorod by Estonian Vikings, enabling them to seize large quantities of silver, amber and furs. Ships are sent to investigate the Varangian trade routes to the south, previously used by the Vikings, although establishing trade will be difficult as the Kievan Rus block the way.  He also begins training the tribal militias to better standards and creating a modern light cavalry. Meanwhile, he requests to confederate with Hiumaa to the north. (Mod Response Needed)
    • The Hiumaa state they wil consider the proposition if Veste can prove himself a capable leader and if his tribe is willing to share power. (successfully do something in your state or gain enough military power to force them to join you .) mod response
  • Ghaznivid Sultanate: Mas’ud III, begins the process of influencing Sindh, sending advisors, economic pact requests and a military alliance request. (Mod Response Please) Mas’ud III sees the relative stability of the times to increase the infrastructure of his nation. A large road system is planned and the first segments are constructed. Unfortunately, disaster strikes as the Sultan and his family are travelling, to review the progress on a bridge, their boat sinks, and young Arslan-Shah falls into the river. Fortunately a second barge arrives very quickly and rescues the Sultan and his family. However, Arslan-Shah drowns. The death of his son devastates Mas’ud. However, he is thankful that his other sons are still alive and that his wife was able to escape.
  • Despite ambiguity after the Battle of Melitene by Alexios Kommenos, the Roman Empire eventually declares the battle to be a tragedy, and the rescue of Bohemond important for the "survival of Christendom". The Donation of Constantinople is proved to be a fake by the government, and emissaries are sent to Rome in order to try and fix the pesky mutual-excommunication issue grow. The military is expanded in the east, because of growing threats from the Muslims.
  • Duchy of Saxony: With Magnus growing in age his reign enters its fourth decade. He continues to keep the various regions of the Duchy in check as his military remains stoutly loyal and all of the nobles in Saxony share a common distrust towards the Imperial Crown and towards the archbishop of Bremen. Trade in the Baltics are increased as Magnus sees the need to increase German activity in northern and eastern europe. Military expansion begins. Magnus offers a formal apology to the Emperor and requests that the two sides start mending relations, despite this gesture Magnus greatly distrusts the Salian Family. Magnus delegates his son in law Otto von Ballenstedt as the admistrator of the Northern March. Reforms to start solidifying the nobility and the feudal system begin. Magnus also commissions a series of fortifications to be built along the Eastern Frontier of Saxony and its vassals. troops are sent to help hold down and convert the slavics within the Marches. Settlers from cities and the country side in Saxony move into the Marches to the east. Magnus promises aid to Jerusalem and Antioch in the form of troops led by Count Lothair of Supplinburg to help hold down the kingdom. Magnus reaffirms his alliance with Magnus of Norway (Magnus of saxony is the son of Norweigen royalty). Saxony begins improving relations with Bohemia. Efforts to improve relations with the other duchies of the Holy Roman Empire are also carried out.
    • Northern March: Recently appointed Otto of Ballenstedt begins adminstrating his new charge promoting the conversion of the slavic population. German settlers from Saxony move into the march and are accommodated by the administration. Otto and his wife Eililka (the daughter of Magnus) have their first child son Albert. The troops sent by Magnus are kept in heavily populated slavic areas and catholic missionaries work to spread the word of the Catholic faith.
    • Messian march: German settlers from Saxony move into the March and are accommodated by the administration. The troops sent by Magnus are kept in heavily populated slavic areas and catholic missionaries work to spread the word of the Catholic faith.
    • Lusatian March: German settlers from Saxony move into the March and are accommodated by the administration. The troops sent by Magnus are kept in heavily populated slavic areas and catholic missionaries work to spread the word of the Catholic faith.
  • Jerusalem: The coronation of the king is a cause for celebration amongst the Catholics in the realm, and Baldwin sets out to create a firm kingdom that Catholics can be proud of. Any damages to the capital are repaired and knights and levies are sent out to man the numerous forts or outposts that dot the nation. Acre is opened up as a trade port to other Christian powers to help the nation's economy. As much as they disagree, Baldwin sends an alliance request to the Roman Empire, recognizing it as the strongest regional Christian power.
  • The Almoravid Sultanate, under Yusuf ibn Tashafin, engages in large-scale military engagements with the
  • Kingdom of Castile-Leon: King Alfonso VI, sends blessed tidings and a bit of gold to Aragon, with deep ties between the royal family, the King, once again calls upon the Kingdom of Aragon, and their king, King Pedro I. King Alfonso VI increases the training and the size of the Spanish Knights, as the royal horses of notra espana are favored throughout Western Europe are used for the most prestigious of knights. King Alfonso's daughter, Princess Teresa is sent to Saragossa, in order to marry the King, and make Saragosa part of the Kingdom. Princess Uracca is sent to King Pedro I in order to "persuade" him into a marriage and joining the Kingdoms together to form a unified northern Spain, in order to combat any offensive attacks, in which the infidels in the South, have set up many great and prosporous Islamic kingdoms. The economy is expanded as taxes are collected and small tributes from the church, are gained due to the enforcement of Christianity in the great kingdom is continued. We increase our relations with our northern neighbor, France, in attempts to form a stronger bond between the two of us. As King Alfonso VI coaxs his future friends, he hopes to gain allies, and more land and support. Unifying Spain in the north. With a linked Kingdom containing, Saragosa, Nevarre, and Aragon, and later more kingdoms. An alliance is requested of the Kingdom of Burgundy
  • The County of Sicily expands the military. Some returned army men from the Crusades create the Order of Saint Lukes, a order of ex-crusaders. King Roger orders the extreme cultivation of the farm land, many grapes, olives, and grains continue to be harvested. Many new ships are commissioned as trade vessels as Roger looks to trade and ships to support the economy. Many ships round the Mediterranean taking Sicilian goods around the Mediterranean and goods from them back to Sicily. The goods than go to the rest of the Mediterranean.
  • Papal States: We spend the year improving our military and economy.  We also begin to vassalize Tuscany (one of four) as we share close cutural backgrounds with them wanting them to join our superior nation.  Mil and Eco turn.
  • Choose another nation. The Papal States are reserved for a veteran player, sorry. With Blood and Iron (talk) 02:00, May 16, 2014 (UTC)
  • Vlaches: As many Catholic crusaders, missionaries and pilgrims begin to pass into the Near East some (but) of the tribes ended up converting to Catholicism. Two of the larger tribes in the region arranged a political wedding, binding the two tribes. The newly formed tribe and chief gave a larger share of the power to the Catholic priests, and these Catholic priests began to teach other disciples in Latin (which was and is extremely similar to Romanian), which is picked up quickly due to similarities in the language. As a result Latin over the course of several months managed to become a trend amongst the rulers of these tribes, similar to most Christian kingdoms. Emissaries are sent to nearby Hungary, Croatia and Galicia, as well as the Papal States, Sicily and to the Holy Roman Emperor, and of course nearby Catholic Balkan states proclaiming the Grand Duchy of Vlachia in the Southwestern Vlach Territories, offering peace and cooperation amongst Catholics.
    • Croatian Diplomacy: The Croatian King recognises the Grand Duchy of Vlachia as a legitimate and wishes to help them in the process of conversion by sending missionaries (FYI, at the moment Croats use their own language in Church, which means this would have linguistic effects on the Vlachs)
    • Vlach Diplomacy: All foreign missionaries are met with free lodging and food.
    • Daxus, this is a process. It'll take at least ten years to fully organize that state. I hope you realize this. With Blood and Iron (talk) 11:10, May 16, 2014 (UTC)
      • It's a small self-proclaimed duchy madeup of existing tribes; it could be conceived in a year. . (talk)
    • On the other hand, the Vlachs are already Orthodox I believe, but yes, they are disorganized and primarily consist of sheperds at the moment. SkyGreen24 13:31, May 16, 2014 (UTC)
  • Kingdom of Denmark: Christianization nears 100%, the few remaining pagan holdouts are located in isolated, rural areas. King Eric I plans a trip to Rome, hoping to obtain an archbishop for Denmark. He also expands to military.

1101[]

  • Baldwin I leads troops of Jerusalem to victory capturing Arsuf and Ceasarea.
  • The second wave of Crusaders pass through Anatolia with about half of them dying at the hands of the Suljek Armies, amongst those lost is Lothair of Saxony much to the dispare of Magnus and Lothair's own family. However, the other half reach the Holy Land and quickly re-inforce the numbers of Jerusalem's armies.
  • Robert Courthose, Duke of Normandy renounces his claims to the Anglo-Norman crown giving way for Henry to fully assume control over both Normandy and England .
  • Countess Mathilda takes Ferrera.
  • Welf II becomes duke of Bavaria and overseer of the East March.
  • The county of Berg is founded.
  • Canute II of Denmark is Canonized.
  • A vast compialation of Song, Laos and Korean Buddhist works are completed.
  • The Hungarian recognition of the new king of Croatia causes Coloman to lose his own claims to the throne of Croatia in the eyes of the Holy See and the rest of the Catholic world (should Hungary attempt to seize the throne they will have less then 20% chance of success).
  • The troops of Almoravid Emperor Yusuf ibn, Tashfin besieges the city of Valencia which is now ruled by the widow of El Cid.
  • Roger II becomes the count of Sicily and Duke of Calabria at birth following the death of his father, his mother becomes regent.
  • The new Anti-pope Albert is elected upon the death of the previous.
  • The rise of ambitious leaders in Este and Vlach makes tribes in the region uneasy or in some cases inspires similar thinking tribesmen to try and promote centralization, while it also causes alarm amongst organized Christian states who have hopes of expanding into these areas.
    • Could future mod events please be re-read for grammar at least once before clicking "publish?" . (talk)
  • Lombardy: Sends troops in the crusade against the Muslims. We begin vassilization of Tuscany. We ask for an alliance with the Saxons. Trade throughout the Mediterranean benefits lombardy greatly, bringing in Middle Eastern goods as well as that from Mediterranean powers (military turn).
  • Papal states have already begun vassalizing Tuscany (see 1100).
  • Este: In Saaremaa, Estonian and Lettic Vikings are encouraged to settle. As many other states are attempting to curry ravour with their neighbours by limiting these raiders actions, some thousands move to the island, With this bolstered military force, Veste enacts a blockade of Novgorod. Working from bases on the North Estonian coast, his ships capture all Rus' and Novgorod ship traffic and redirect the rest to Saaremaa and Estonia. As a result, trade from Russia to Europe begins to flow through Estonia instead of Novgorod. With these increased revenues, Veste reorganizes the military. He creates a permanent militia and begins training these troops to act as modern heavy infantry. He also organizes a standing army, made up mainly of cavalry. Veste is proclaimed Duke of Estonia by acclamation from his nobles, and sends renewed requests for submission to Hiuumaa, while peacefully proposing marriage to the daughter of the ruler of Laanemaa. (Mod Response Needed). Increased cultural influence from western Europe results in some conversion to Christianity.
  • The ruler of Laanemaa accepts to give the hand of one of his daughters in marriage to Veste.
  • Easy there, man. I said make it more plausible. These things take time. At least a decade or so will be needed to finish centralizing power - especially in the Baltic tribes. With Blood and Iron (talk) 19:36, May 16, 2014 (UTC)
  • Kingdom of Croatia: King Petar Krešimir V, after being elected continues to consolidate his rule over the kingdom, with support from both a former claimant, king Coloman and the Pope. Furthermore, he offers a trade pact to Ragusa in order to restore the relations with the Ragusan Croats (mod response)
    • Ragusa Dip (mod response): The offer of trade is accepted.
  • Kingdom of Castile-Leon: We refuse to allow Yusef to take over Valencia, now with Uracca going to the King of Saragossa, and Teresa now aligning Aragon and Nevarre with Castile-Leon as well. The great northern Iberian kingdom refuses to allow islamic infidels into Valencia, the home of the revered lord, Rodrigo Divar, the Cid. The military and economy is expanded. The great Spanish knights are dispatched to Barcelona along with a diplomat, in order to request Barcelona's entering of the Kingdom, becoming one of regents in the great Christian nation. King Alfonso VI sends War Galleys to the ports of Valencia, in order to protect its numerous harbors. Next year, the King will be running the kingdoms of Nevarre, Aragon, Saragossa, and Valencia. We request an alliance with the Burgundians. We increase our relations with France.
  • Kingdom of Hungary: We increase the military by adding more men. Our country expand west into the Vlach and Uzes tribes continuing to take them over. Troops are burning down the cities, killing, and slaving all of the Vlach and Uzes people. The most important industries of our nation are farming and blacksmithing. We sent up walls and outposts around our capital Budapest. The king marries a women called Veronika. More troops are sent to help out in the Crusades. The economy expands due to trade with Croatia.
  • You can't expand that easily into the Vlachs and Uzes, especially since they're organizing. You would meet a strong opposition unless you sent an actual army. SkyGreen24 21:37, May 16, 2014 (UTC)
  • And they barely have cities, and slavery isn't a thing in Hungary.
  • Kingdom of England: We continue to expand the military. Relations are established with Gwynedd and Deuhubarth. England begins to give money and resources to these states to help increase ties. Diplomats travel to and from France in effort to maintain positive relations. King Henry orders a modernization of the military with renewed emphasis on the navy. Influence is placed on Britanny (vassalization attempt).
    • Normandy: Military and infrastructure is expanded. Norman nobles, along with the English, continue to maintain positive relations to the French. Trade is increased with England and France.
  • Ghaznivid Sultanate: Mas’ud III, begins the process of influencing Sindh, sending advisors, economic pact requests and a military alliance request. (Mod Response, Please) Mas’ud III sees the relative stability of the times to increase the infrastructure of his nation. A large road system is planned and the first segments are constructed. More land becomes cultivated and farms are built across the nation. (Inf Turn)
Knights continue to make offensive campaigns with the King in order to solidify the borders of the new kingdom as well as secure the safety of the holy city. Once the city is safe and repaired, plans to construct cathedrals and many wonderful churchs are made. All previous alliance requests are accepted. As much as they disagree, Baldwin sends an alliance request to the Roman Empire, recognizing it as the strongest regional Christian power.
    • Vlachian D: Would King Baldwin be interested in several large shipment of war-horses for a cheap price?
  • Duchy of Vlachia (Vlaches):  As the newly Catholic state in the mainly Orthodox region that uses Latin and isn't nomadic is more attractive to traders the economy in the duchy begins to boom'''''', as the place begins to become a common stopping place for traders in the region. The first duke, Anton Slyzvak, founds a military order known as the Knights of Carpathia, a order dedicated to spreading Christianity and law to all of Carpathia. These Knights, though few in number (still a small duchy and all), they are well outfitted and taught to read and write in Latin.  The borders expand along to the east expensivley, as the Duke prefers to hire mercenaries to preserve his own soldiers in many cases, but luckily not too expensive as other Vlach tribes are easily assimilated (you know, same culture in all) and are not too difficult to convert, and sometimes came willingly. As many people settle down in cities there is some excess of horses, and so the Duchy took a loan from some Italian bank and bought a large number of these horses to being operating state-run horse ranches, to be trained and bred, and are either later put into service, donated to travelling pilgrims and Crusaders who came on hard times, or sold, particularly cheap to the Crusader states and Holy Orders. Croatian missionaries are offered free lessons in Latin in a few schools in major population hubs, but these schools do cost for merchants and bourgouisie.
  • Just a heads up, Croat missionaries will preach in Old Church Slavonic, not Latin. -Sky

Mil and Eco Turn.
    • Population is around 500,000 at this time. The Army should be around 34,000 and the navy between 80-100 ships. Stephanus rex (talk) 03:22, May 17, 2014 (UTC)
    • Gotcha
    • Also having discussed with some of the other mods I would advise you to slow down your vassalization attempt, usually we work with one year for 2% of territorial size compared to your nation. You will also need to be careful about the Holy Roman Empire. Stephanus rex (talk) 14:35, May 17, 2014 (UTC)
This leads to Magnus taking his own personal troops and staging a few raids into Sweden to aggravate the smaller and less developed kingdom. With the raids on Sweden resulting in many villagers joining Magnus's raiding parties King Magnus makes the decision to begin heavily influencing Sweden through raiding, force and political pressure on the Swedish court.

  • Sultanate of Oman: After the tragic death of his father, Olinfa al-Hassam, known affectionately as "Ollie" by the public, takes power as the Sultan of the nation. He feels he needs a symbol of his power over the dominion, so he orders his craftsmen to fashion a baton of gold, eleven inches long. The gold is embedded with pearls found in the waters around the tip of the Musandam Peninsula in the north of the country. In the very same week, a diver in a small fishing village finds the largest pearl ever seen in these waters, the size of a grown man's fist. The royal palace hears stories of this great pearl, and the Sultan offers to pay a great price for its ownership. The price is great indeed, and the diver's life is changed for the good, and within the year his small town of Ras Al-Khaimah is transformed into a busy epicentre of the growing pearling business in the region. The Sultan orders his craftsmen to polish and shape the pearl, which is a deep-blue colour, into a perfect spere, and fashion it into the tip of his baton. The baton and its great pearl is soon heard of all across the nation, and stories of its beauty make their way in time across the Arabian Peninsula to Sana, Yemen, and the Fatimid Caliphate. Merchants of Sohar make their way south, along the great land beyond the Red Sea, and come to a small island. This island is explored and named Socotra by the sailors. Its beauty entrances the sailors, and they settle the seemingly abandoned island, and claim it for the Sultan. The newly-instated Ollie tours the coastal towns, mingling with the people in the souks and busy ship-building yards of the capital Sohar. He sees the quality of work going into the ships on display, and orders them to be modified so that they can be utilized not just as traders and vessels of peace, but also as ships of war, defenders of the great peace the nation has built up over the years. The Sultan offers a greeting of friendship to the states of Yemen, Sana and the Fatimid Caliphate, and suggests free trade between these nations. Visiting the towns and villages on the north coast, Ollie sees the tactical significance of the Hormuz, and orders fortifications be built of th precarious cliffs of the Musandam. In a tiny village called Khasab, on the very northern tip of the peninsula, he meets a wise old man called Buram. He is nearly 80, and lost his children annd wife to a pirate attack long ago. The Sultan acknowledges the wisdom and knowledge of the world this man possesses, and adopts him as a personal advisor to royalty, to the Sultan and his wife, Fatihma. He also asks him to be the tutor to his young children. Buram, seeing the opportunties that would entail, graciously accepts the post. He asks the Sultan if he could have a private obvservatory, a small parapet, built into the palace, as he has been studying the stars for long years, and sees his friendship with the Sultan as an opportunity to further expand his knowledge. The parapet is built, and on many clear starry nights, the occupants of Sohar can sometimes see a lone figure with a candle, sitting alone, high above the city at the peak of the Royal palace, gazing skyward.

    • Also, make that number 20,000. At most you don't have enough power at the moment to levie 50,000 troops, only the crusader states, France, the Holy Roman Emperor (not the individual duchies but the emperor), Castile-Leon and the Roman Empire can muster forces that large at present, or the Islamic empires.
